Late night food in Allston, from a kitchen open until 2 AM on Cambridge Street
Allston packs a lot of places to eat into a few streets. This guide is written by one of them, so read it with that in mind.
Last updated · October 19, 2026
Search late night food in Allston and you get a map full of pins and a few ranked lists of Allston restaurants. The pins are accurate. The lists mostly were not written at eleven at night by someone deciding where to eat.
So here is who is writing. FRIES B4 GUYS is a halal kitchen at 485 Cambridge Street, by Union Square, open from 12 PM to 2 AM every day. That makes us one of the restaurants this page is about, and we are not going to pretend to be a neutral guide. We will not rank our neighbors. What we can do is explain how the neighborhood eats across a day, what to check before you walk somewhere, and where we fit and where we don't.
The short version
- Most of Allston's restaurants sit on Brighton Ave and Harvard Ave. Cambridge Street, our end, is wider, and the places to eat are spread out.
- "Open late" is two numbers. When the doors close and when the kitchen stops cooking are often different. Ask about the second one.
- Lunch here is a timing problem. Pick a place where the food is cooked to order but the line moves.
- FRIES B4 GUYS is open 12 PM to 2 AM daily, and the whole menu is halal. Kumpir is in-store only.
01How Allston eats: Brighton Ave, Harvard Ave, and the Cambridge Street end
Most of what people mean by food in Allston sits on two streets. Brighton Ave and Harvard Ave are where the restaurants stack up next to each other, small rooms and counters with a lot of cuisines between them. If you want to walk out the door without a plan and decide on the sidewalk, that is where to go.
Cambridge Street runs differently. It is wider, and the places to eat are spread out rather than shoulder to shoulder. Union Square is where it meets Brighton Ave, and that corner is ours. From the corner of Harvard Ave and Brighton Ave it is about a six minute walk.
So on Harvard Ave you tend to browse, and on Cambridge Street you tend to come on purpose. Both work. It just helps to know which kind of night you are having before you leave the house.
02Late night food in Allston, and what "open late" actually means
A lot of the searches that land on this site are some version of late night food in Allston. Students, people coming off a shift, people whose plans ran long. The honest answer to "who is open" changes by night and by season, so we will not hand you a list that might be wrong by the time you read it. Instead, here is how to check.
The first thing to ask is when the kitchen closes, because that is often earlier than the door. Plenty of places keep the lights on after the grill has been scraped down, and a posted closing time can mean the last order went in half an hour before it. Some kitchens also switch to a shorter menu late, which is a fair way to run a restaurant but annoying if you walked over for one thing.
Delivery apps keep their own hours, too. An app can show a place as closed while the counter is still serving walk-ins, or the other way round. If it matters, call.
The FRIES B4 GUYS version: doors open at 12 PM and close at 2 AM, every day of the week. The fries served late were cut by hand that morning, the same batch as lunch. If you are cutting it close to 2, call (857) 498-3839 before you set off. We wrote more about why we stay open that late in an earlier post.
03Lunch in Allston when you have forty minutes between classes
Lunch is the opposite problem. Everything is open, and the constraint is time. Forty minutes between classes or a short break from work, minus the walk both ways, leaves maybe twenty to order, wait and eat.
What works in that window is a short menu and food cooked to order rather than held under a lamp. A long menu slows everyone down, the kitchen included. If you already know what you want, order ahead.
We open at noon, and the buns are baked in our kitchen that morning, so the first lunch orders get them still warm. If you order ahead through our online ordering page, the wait happens while you walk over. Kumpir is the one thing to skip on a tight lunch. The potato takes 60 to 80 minutes to bake, and we only serve it in-store.
04Eating halal in Allston
Our whole menu is halal, not just the chicken. We have already written the long version about halal restaurants in Allston, including how we source the beef, so we won't repeat it here.
05What we cook at 485 Cambridge Street
The menu is short on purpose. Prices below were checked against our own online ordering page in October 2026. The full menu has the rest.
The main things on the menu, and what they cost
| Item | What it is | Price |
| Burgers | Halal prime beef, ground the same day it is cooked, on a bun baked here that morning. FBG Burger, Blue Royal, Midnight Fire, or build your own. | $12.99 single, $16.99 with fries |
| Platters | Any burger with Dutch-style fries, a dessert and a soft drink. | $23.99 |
| Dutch-style fries | Cut by hand every morning and fried twice, low heat then high. Every order comes with a sauce. Extra sauces are $1.50. | See the menu |
| Chicken loaded fries | Fries under halal chicken, basil pesto, bang bang sauce, green onions and jalapeños. | $15.99 |
| Kumpir | A Turkish baked potato, whipped with butter and cheese in its skin, then loaded with toppings you pick. In-store only. | In-store |
| Belgian waffle | Mix made in our kitchen. Strawberry, banana, kiwi and Nutella. | $13.99 |
If you have never had kumpir, this is what it is. It is the slowest thing we make and the one we are proudest of.
06When we are not the answer
We are a counter with a short menu. That rules us out for some nights, and it is better to say so here than at the register.
If you want table service and a long dinner, look for a place that takes reservations and lists courses rather than combos. That is a different kind of room from ours. Bringing a big group? Call ahead wherever you go and ask whether they can seat everyone together.
If you are after one cuisine done properly, pick a menu that goes deep on it rather than wide across five. And if you have a strict dietary need beyond halal, look for a kitchen that labels it on the menu and can tell you how the food is made. "We can probably work something out" is not the same answer.
07Getting to Union Square: transit, parking, ordering ahead
FRIES B4 GUYS is at 485 Cambridge Street, Allston, MA 02134, at Union Square. From the corner of Harvard Ave and Brighton Ave it is about a six minute walk. BU's West Campus is about a twenty minute walk, or a short ride on the 57 bus along Brighton Ave and Comm Ave, and BC is a short ride out.
We can't promise you a parking spot outside. If you are driving, give yourself a few extra minutes and read the signs before you leave the car.
To skip the wait, order ahead on our online ordering page and pick it up at the counter. We also deliver through DoorDash and Uber Eats. Kumpir is the one exception. It does not survive a delivery bag, so it stays in the shop.
